Regulations in Perspective: How the UNECE WP.29 Applies To Key Players in the Automotive Ecosystem

Due to the complexity of automotive cybersecurity regulations, hearing multiple industry perspectives is of paramount importance. Erez Gold, Head of Automotive at Israel Export Institute will discuss: 

  • Key factors for a successful OEM and cybersecurity vendor relationship 
  • Changes in the international automotive trade landscape due to UN regulations

Yonatan Appel, Co-Founder and CTO of Upstream Security will discuss: 

  • The importance of vehicle telemetries and threat intelligence in regulatory compliance
  • The role that cybersecurity products play in the path to compliance


François E. Guichard

Mechanical Engineer at United Nations Economic Commission for Europe

Francois E. Guichard is the Secretary of the Working Party on Automated/Autonomous and Connected Vehicles. He is supervising the activities on technical regulations related to vehicle automation and vehicle connectivity. He is the Intelligent Transport Systems and Automated Driving focal point of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. Previously, he worked as a line manager at Daimler AG, he advocated for the introduction of Advanced Emergency Braking Systems (AEBS) in the legislation (a relevant contribution for increasing road safety). Before that, he advised a number of Countries on their strategies to tackle environmental issues after having gained experience as a noise / Greenhouse Gas/pollutants emission testing engineer. He started his career as an International Management Associate at Mercedes-Benz, gaining experience in Germany, South Africa, and in the United States of America.

Paul Wooderson

Cybersecurity Principal Engineer & Team Leader at HORIBA MIRA

Paul Wooderson is Cybersecurity Principal Engineer and leads the cybersecurity team in HORIBA MIRA’s Vehicle Resilience department. He is a Chartered Engineer with 18 years’ experience in embedded systems security in the automotive and previously smartcard domains.

Paul’s responsibilities include cybersecurity engineering R&D, consultancy, testing, and assessment. He is a UK Expert to the international ISO and UNECE working groups developing new standards and regulations for cybersecurity engineering and software updates for road vehicles. He has played a lead role in the recent cybersecurity-related collaborative research projects ResiCAV, 5StarS and UK CITE, and has several publications on side-channel attacks and automotive cybersecurity engineering.

Erez Gold

Head of Sector, Mobility, Auto-Tech & Smart Cities at the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute

Erez Gold is the head of Automotive, Smart Cities & Industry 4.0 at the Israel Export Institute. For sixty years, the organization, which was established and funded by the Israeli government and the private sector, has provided expertise in technology and product scouting, joint ventures, and strategic alliances with Israeli companies. The automotive sector of the IEI continuously monitors current global trends in the field and helps exporters successfully penetrate markets around the world. By leveraging this knowledge and maintaining strong relationships with key players in the ecosystem (such as VCs, academia, accelerators, and the government), the sector has positioned itself as a go-to partner or hundreds of startups and MNCs alike. Through the Export Institute, Erez is paving the way for multinationals and corporates to innovate in a variety of aspects. 

Yonatan Appel

Co-Founder and CTO, Upstream Security

Yonatan leads Upstream’s product development, bringing 20 years of technology development and product management experience in industry-leading multinational companies. He brings deep experience in cybersecurity innovation in world-leading application security companies such as Check Point and Imperva, as well as experience in developing enterprise-grade cloud-based analytics technologies in Microsoft. He also served in an elite technological unit in the IDF Intelligence Corps. Yonatan holds a BA in Computer Science from the Open University of Israel (cum laude), and an LLB from Tel Aviv University.
